DnD Novels Dead?

Off the top of my head, of the 6 RPG products listed, only one of them is a traditional hardcover book.

Two of the products (The Nentir Vale, Heroes of Shadow) are 6" by 9" trade paperbacks, which is a different format than I'm used to seeing.

That is indeed interesting.

Looks like D&D as we've known it is undergoing a transformation of sorts. (Well, *continuing* a transformation may be a more apt way of putting it.)

I didn't know prior to seeing this catalog that Gamma World was being branded "D&D Gamma World," which is eyebrow-raising only to branding nerds. You know, like me.

Well, it also suggests a great deal of system compatibility between D&D and GW in this release. That's not earth-shattering, but it is interesting.

It's also a bit odd as you'd rather assume that there were no Dragons in Gamma World; buyt perhaps my creativity is failing me. :)

The whole post Darksun product schedule is weird. For two years, we all figured we were on some numbered numbered train heading for DMG3, PHB4, etc..., but then there was no DMG3 scheduled after PHB3 and MM3. Then they scheduled a bunch of products for beginners in paperbacks, and Gamma World in a series of boxed sets.

Which book is the hardcover? I know that some of their other books will be softcover now, but I'm still uncertain as to the fates of some typically hardcover books.

I don't know if its a transformation or an experimentation. Attempting to bring in more players by trying a different format and pricepoint seems like something the brand should do every so often.

I just went searching for a whole lot of the newer FR novels on amazon.com and amazon.co.uk and noticed a curious thing; Amazon.com lists many novels as not available while amazon.co.uk still has them (although very small numbers.) I've never noticed this before...
