I'd agree that using a handaxe or battleaxes statistics would be best for a machete. It doesn't really fit the scimitar or short sword statistics.

Looking at the Arms n Armour supplement from Bastion they gave it 1d6 with a x2crit and its a simple small melee weapon.
They also gave it a range of 10ft if you huck it at someone.

I dunno, the melee bits are about right, dunno about throwing one. The ones Ive owned, ex-aussie military ones, had about a 2ft blade and I'd be damned if I'd ever throw one either
