Ive been really struggling to access the Enworld forum,
Im thinking of starting a DnD group with some friends but we all want to just have a character, so i was thinking each have a character role play with him but then take it in turns to control the monsters.

So you could even have say warband vs warband and then have monsters fighting too.

It would also help solo play if no ones there to game.
Some feedback on this idea would be fabulous

That woud work if you want to treat it as a pure war game, but it's more problematic if you want to do some more character oriented roleplaying.

Something you might try is what's called troupe style play. That's where everybody has a character and you rotate turns GMing. When it's your turn to GM your character either takes a break to pursue his interests off-screen or is run as an NPC (the GM must be careful not to hog the spotlight, there is a reason the GM NPC has negative connotations.) You use short modules or adventures and rotate to the next gm afterwards so everyone has a chance to play. Good Luck.

And yes it does sound quite like a wargame i will agree almost like Mordheim
