DnDI -- autorenewal

Not sure this is the right place for the question, moderators feel free to move...

I just got a bill for a renewal of my DnDI account from Wizards. I was planning on renewing, so no big deal, but I clearly remember being sure that I wasn't signing up for an infinite renewal.

It appears there is no way to turn this auto-renewal option off. This rather pisses me off and is likely going to result in my canceling immediately. Before I do so I wanted to see if anyone had thoughts on the matter. Am I missing some option?

Thanks...

Stopping Your Auto Renew at Wizards CS...

The Short version:

  1. Sign in.
  2. Go to your My Accounts page.
  3. Click on the "Manage D&D Insider" link.
  4. Click on the "My Subscription History" link.
  5. Find your current subscription in the list.
  6. Click on the "Deactivate Auto Renew" link.
  7. A confirmation page with pop up. Click on "Accept Action".
  8. Done.

Yeah, I got an email last weekend that I was up for autorenewal in a month. Took me over an hour to figure it out. Having password problems didn't help...don't ever forget your password or you're screwed. I needed to enter a password to get a new password sent to me. WTF? Luckily, I figured it out eventually.

Yeah the autorenewal placement is very unintiutive! I hope for them that i find the renewal button easier if I should decide to renew again (only if the next CB Update comes on time). :p

Yeah, I received an email last week telling me that my sub was going to expire soon, and the interesting thing to note was that they included this little tidbit:

"Please note -- if you want to use Manual Renewal again, you will need to notify Customer Service in order to turn off Auto-Renew on your new purchase. We apologize for this inconvenience and are working on streamlining this process."

So, even though I already turned off Auto-Renew, I'll have to do it AGAIN.

Oh, and they apologize for this "inconvenience"?? TWO YEARS after subscribers complained about the process when it first came to light???

Epic Fail. There is no excuse for this still being a problem.

Prompted by this thread, I went into My Account to turn off autorenewal.

However, I had turned it off once before in February 2010, and I had allowed my original subscription to lapse; so when I subscribed again, the online system created a new subscription for me, with a new subscription number.

What I saw when I got there this week was that BOTH the old and the new subscription were set to autorenew in February; so I clicked the link to turn off the autorenew setting on the older subscription, because I didn't want to have two renewal charges hitting my credit card the same month. (Who would?)

Fail! That one act turned off autorenew on both subscriptions at once.
I guess a user can't delete an older subscription unassisted, even with a password; and a user can't turn off autorenew on one old subscription while leaving autorenew active on the current subscription.

Well-designed tools would let you do that, of course. DigitalRiver's service for WotC is not like that. (Might getting a new service provider be a worthwhile project for WotC?)

(Did I mention that I think that DigitalRiver is incompetent at database programming?)
Hey @mudbunny, could you call this abomination to WotC's attention?

Yup. I will pass this up. If you don't mind, could you PM me (here or on the WotC site) with your DDI username so that I can send it to WotC Trevor as well so that they have an example of this happeneing? If you would rather not let me know your DDI username, is it all right if I let WotC_Trevor know to look for a PM from you with your account name??
