Do animal companions lose their bonus HD if they're fired?

I thought the title was "....if they are fixed."
this is less funny.
He doesn't keep bonus HD but as a DM I would prolly advance the animal a couple of HD per monster advancement rules. (although this might not stack with bonus HD if it was re-be-friended)

I'd tend to rule NO they keep all the bonusses that had and also developing a seething hatred for the Druid that betrayed them:)

This explains why there are so many quiet, peaceful creatures in the woods which for some inexplicable reason will ATTACK ALL HUMAN(oid)S

If you fire him after a lifelong career of faithful service, it is up to you, his employer, to provide his retirement benefits, your class ability does not.. Awaken and a few magic items can make a fine severance package. A ring of sustenance would be a cheap way to ensure he never starves to death.

Only for modern, American Druids. Familiars for Canadian and most European Druids are supported by the forest after the Druid has retired them.

In the old day, Druids would just take their old animal companions out to the wood shed, and "retire" them in the most humane way they knew: with a Dwarven blackpowder musket. PETMA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Mythical Animals) put a stop to this practice a number of versions ago, though.

:) ;) :D :p  Smilies to avoid censorship for what could possible to construed as political statements.
