Do constructs follow the "Damage to Objects" rules?

That seems like it would be a pretty major change. Besides, golems are already immune to a lot of things.

Instead, I think I'll just rule that Animated Objects (like all the stuff in Disney's Beauty and the Beast) will generally follow rules for damaging objects. I dunno... no one in my game has 6th level spells yet, and I imagine that's the only place it'll ever come up.

Well that should be easy. They already do. ;) Just pokin'. Well, except for the whole energy attack thing. But that's actually kind of a neat idea. I should test that out.

Don't forget that there is also such a thing as a gargantuan or colossal animated object. So you might still run into trouble. Most animated objects are really considered threats because they are usually very simple (i.e. candlesticks, teapots, rugs, dressers) but you may find problems when dealing with larger objects. Even though really strange and large animated objects aren't fully represented in the MM, and must be designed by you first, it might still be a bit overpowering. Just food for thought. :)
 

You could replace their DR by an "hardness" factor if it makes you feel better.

It wouldn't be a bad idea because in my experience golems can go down very quickly against determined opposition armed with weapons of the appropriate enchantment. Without a CON bonus they simply don't have enough HP despite the fact that they're immuned to critical.

Hardness could change that.

But then again what I do is simply give them an effective CON bonus to HP and fortitude that represents the quality of their construction.
