Do gargoyles have a god?

I prefer the gargoyles as constructs notion of OD&D myself, but otherwise... hm. Pazuzu sounds good. Seems to me there was someone else, but I can't recall offhand. I'd think it would be most likely a demon lord of some sort, as opposed to a standard god-type god.

In the City State of the Invincible Overlord, there is a temple to th Gargoyle God..who is a gigantic gargoyle disguised as an idol of the deity.

So yeah, since the seventies, the gargoyles have worshipped th gargoyle god. I guess they travel to the CSIO for weddings, funerals, sunday school, etc.

Since they guard churches...you'd think.

I'd think it would be more pragmatic not to have a god. Afterall you want your roost to be safe and not subject to the wrath of someones elses jealous diety.

But yeah to me Gargoyles are a race of constructs who 'revere' the First Gargoyle (She who made the race live)

Arghrasmak

In the recent hardcover version of City State of the Invincible Overlord the deity is called Arghrasmak, God of Gargoyles (P. 114-115). Oddly, Arghrasmak's high priest is listed as Lawful Evil. As gargoyles are typically Chaotic Evil, that presents a bit of a problem. Even worse...Arghrasmak's alignment is not given. For my Wilderlands campaign I made Arghrasmak Neutral Evil and gave him the following domains: Earth, Evil and Strength.

Of course, one could just assume that the high priest's alignment is a misprint and/or change his alignment to Neutral Evil, Chaotic Neutral or Chaotic Evil. That way Arghrasmak could be Chaotic Evil like most gargoyles. In that case, you'd want to add Chaos to the domain list.

Thanks for all the replies.

I like Pazuzu or Ogremoch, but I might also stat out Arghrasmak as a demon lord or demi-god.

Is it just me or does Ogremoch and Arghrasmak seem way too similar for mere coincidence?

Atheist gargoyles... because they guard churches. :uhoh:

Do they really guard churches, though? Or are they just showing their contempt for the gods by perching on their holy sanctuaries and defiling them with their defecations?
