Do Intelligent Weapons Know They Made A Save?

Say for example that an intelligent weapon hits a creature that can shatter it anytime the creature gets hit (like some monsters in MMIII). A Fort save is required.

Does the intelligent weapon know that it had to make a save? Does the owner of the intelligent weapon know?

There is a rule that creatures know when they successfully save versus a spell, but I cannot find anything on other saving throws. And, the Shatter abillity is not a spell.

Ditto for a non-intelligent weapon. Does the owner know that a save had to be made (and hence, can choose to use a different weapon)?

Well, I'd say that that rule also applies to spell-like abilities and supernatural abilities that emulate spells (per RAW). Usually, you have to look it up in the spell anyways. Other situations are not defined. You're right in that it's not specified anywhere, so my answers are how I would rule it since there's no rule on it one way or another.

Yes, but only if the intelligent item made its own save and not the possessor as an attended item. I would let any creature know that it had to make a save (unless failed and then it depends on the outcome of the effect of course), regardless of Sp, Su, Ex, or a spell. The rules are clear that an intelligent magic item is a creature. The possessor of the intelligent magic item does not know unless he had to supply the saving throw as an attended item. The item could of course, inform others it had to save (free action out of turn to speak, if it can speak).

Yes (see above).

I'd agree there; for completely non-spell situations, I'm not sure.

Fortitude save against contracting a disease, for example? I don't know if that's something you'd be aware of.

Hypersmurf brings up a good point. I'd say that it would depend on the type and subtlety of the cause of the saving throw. A shattering effect is fairly obvious, and not very subtle at all, so I'd say yes, unless the entry said otherwise. For a disease or poison, though, I might not.
