Do people actually play the Prankster archetype?

I've heard this argument a lot that the purpose of gnomes or whatever is the "Prankster". Which, while is an archetype... it's one I've never seen executed.

To nitpick, there is a key difference between a prankster and a trickster. A prankster is a joker, someone who commits pranks for laugh. Trickster is a mythological archetype for a hero/god/whatever who disobeys the rules in order to break preconceptions. Pranksters are more Beavis and Butthead (silly things for laughs), while Tricksters are more Loki, Anansi, Reynard the Fox and such (silly things to teach lessons).
