Do publishers fear the John Cooper review?

Man John Cooper can spot a stat mistake a mile away. Must send shivers down the spine of publishers whenever he reviews their product...

If that's true, why not hire him as a proofreader? It's an interesting proofreading niche, and if I were good at it I'd jump at the chance to do it for money from time to time.

I don't know. I would think that most publishers would welcome it (even if it comes too late) because it's stuff they can fix in future products -- it's concrete feedback. As a writer, I always love it when people can give me that sort of criticism in addition to more subjective stuff. It's easy stuff to fix, and the payoff's great.

I image the pdf guys like him more since they can edit their books fast and get them out to anyone who bought them. From the print companies we have heard that reviews don't do them a lot of good anyway, so they might not actually read them.

Indeed. Constructive criticism is extremely welcomed.
Although it does mean one less reviewer that can look at our work.

Well, Nick, let's just say that not all publishers take such criticism constructively...
True. I guess I've always felt that mechanical/grammatical errors were something that folks should just take the hit on -- either you need a semi-colon or you don't; the stat block's wrong, or it isn't. Rose colored glasses, I suppose.

Well, there is a difference between someone saying "The product had errors in the stat blocks" and listing a half page to a page of errors.

What is "one less reviewer that can look at our work" supposed to mean? That you welcome constructive crticism but blacklist reviewers who give it?
