Do Superheroes Fight Bad Guys Anymore?

Annihilations pretty good. Plus its all Thanos bebe!

Just stay away from Civil War. The mischaracterization of Reed Richards, the ignoring of events from just two years ago, and the just general contrivance of the whole thing is horrible.

Im just staying with it to watch Spidey kick Tony Starks ass.

Boy, I couldn't agree more. I hate the way Reed is being written in this series. And he's supposed to be one of the most intelligent men on the planet.

I look forward to that myself. Iron Man has dropped - nay, plummeted - in my esteem. Bad Tony! No biscuit!

The whole "we'll present both sides equally and you choose your side" thing went out the window the second they compared the pro-registration side with the Nazis...

And "Civil War" is as much false advertisement as "Infinite" Crisis!

BTW, Y - The Last Man is one of the bestest comics I've read in my life. Read 49 issues is a single sitting two days ago. Boy, am I sore!

:D

The writing in Civil War is laughable in an MST3K kind of way.

I'm hoping that the new WildCATs comic by Jim Lee and Grant Morrison is good.

Civil War was a horrible idea badly executed. Marvel's gotten so bad with the big crossovers, lack of continuity, and late books. How long until Quesada's gone and they fix this mess?

I suspect this lack of internal consistency is precisely the reason they hired Steve Wacker away from DC (he edited 52).

In Civil War, aren't they shuffling the non-conformists off to some sort of inhumane prison? Hardly seems like an attempt to present a fair-and-balanced point of view.

Anyway, I was following Annihlation. I had a lot of trouble trying to figure out what they were doing with Nova. Starting from the first issue, you have Drax's annoying little deadpan companion talking about how "corny" his costume looks. Having folks comment that your titular character isn't cool is not a great way to sustain reader interest.

Then they killed Quasar off in the third issue, and the series officially became a write-off for me. If a writer's gotta pull a character in one issue and then kill him off in the next, he's floundering for ideas. It's gimmicky.

Just thought of a title I really enjoy: Bill Willingham's Shadowpact. Good old-school superheroics, with a dark comedic slant and the most wry dialogue this side of Kevin Smith.

What's The Last Man about?

Theyre actually imprisoning them in the Negative Zone!

Indefinately, without trail, until they agree to become government operatives. And it doesntmtter if theyre retired or not, Luke Cages wife was retired and they went after her anyway. If you have powers you have to sign up for lifetime government service, and if you dont you get thrown into the N-Zone for the rest of your natural life.

In the latest issue of Spider-Man, Spidey finally finds out thats what Tony and Reed are doing, gets his head on straight, and gets ready to go join Cap and send Mary Jane and Aunt May to Canada.

Some spoilers for those who havent been folowing this crap and think you might want to in the future.

Then Tony attacks him because hes been eavesdropping on everything he says since the moment he moved into Avengers Tower.

I want to see Parker dismantle Stark.

And then tell Reed to grpw a brain and a pair pf testicles.

They actually had Reed say that he doesnt agree with the law, but hes following it necayse its "The Law" and you always have to follow the law, and doing otherwise just ends up bad for you.

Reed Richards: the man who stole a government spacecraft because he didnt trust the government with it in his first appearance. The man who, just a year or two ago, wouldnt let the government take his children to a "safer" place than the Baxter Building because he didnt trust thier ability to keep his childrens location secret (he was proven right when the fake location of his children was obliterated by missles a few minutes after his children were supposed to have arrived.) The same man who took control of Latveria himself and refused to let the US have because he didnt trust the government with Dooms arsenal of superweapons.

But now he is advocating the government know the identity and location of every single superheroes loved one in the entire country, apparently not caring that not everyone has a multimillion dollar state of the art security system at home to pretect thier Aunt Mays. And if they dont sign up for permanent unquestionable government service he is throwing these former friends and comrades into the Negative Zone for the rest of thier lives.

Its bad enough with Stark, but hes always been a megalomaniacal control freak and a dick, (but even he ha fought against the government on many occasions, and he is acting fatally out of character as well) but Reed Richards was always one of the Goodest people in Marvel. I had really grown to love the character over the last few years, as FF was one of the few comics I could still stomach.

Apparently someone asked Millar what was up with this at some comic convention panel recently, and from what Ive heard his answer was: "he changed his mind."

And then thiers the whole thing with Sue leaving him quietly in the night in Cvil War 4, while in the Fantastic Four comic she flips out and blows a hole through the cieling before she leaves.

I thought they were supposed to have some kind of editor to make sure things like this didnt happpen? Oh wait, Joe Quesada, right. I guess hes just upset he hasnt been able to kill Mary Jane yet, must be stressing him out too much to do his job.

I just want Dr Strange to come out of seclusion and erase a whiole bunch of minds, and leave Tony Stark and Reed Richards with the intellects of retarded 2 year olds.

Gaah.

Sorry for the rant, Ive just been so fed up with this stupid Civil War fiasco, especially since it could have been done intelligently and interestingly instead of making it just another excuse to have people fight each other. And Millar, who people seem to gush over all the time, just further proves to me Im justified in thinking hes a hack. It seems like I cant pick up a comic nowadays without him or Bendis or Morrison or Austen being involved in it, and they all make me want to wretch.

But Hell, if I cant get upset and rant over a geeky subject on a mesage board about a geeky subject, then what is the world comign too? :)

(The only thing Im happy about in this entire mess is Captain America. Go Cap!! Always been my favorite after Spidey.)

Y: The Last Man follows the trials and tribulations of escape artist Yorick Brown and his pet monkey, Ampersand, after a misteryous plague obliterates every single mammal with a Y chromosome in the world. It's very well written and illustrated, and is published by Vertigo/DC. It's for mature audiences, mind you.

Aaron, don't forget about all the mischaracterization of Professor X, and all the retconning to make him seem like a completely amoral manipulator. :(
