Nah; I just let them do as they wish. Regular encounters, traps, assassination attepts, etc etc etc never get the player characters killed. It is always the detail missed during "doodle sessions" that get them killed.
Dungeon Master: just as anticipated...you find the shrine to be populated by the legion of goblins and.....
Master of the Dunce Cap: Charge! Taste my blades of whirling death! I shall have my revenge upon you all!
the remaining players are stunned by the act of stupidity and scramble to think about how to save the shortsighted warrior
DM: ...and as you begin to wade into the mass of smelly and foul beasts, you catch sight of one in the center; slightly taller than a human, he spreads bat-like wings and shows you a mouthful of teeth dripping with venom.
Dunce-Cap-Boy: (out of character) Oh my God....nobody said anything about their master ALREADY being summoned!! to the other players... Did you guys know about this?
other players, nearly in unison: of course not, YOU were talking to the wizard who mentioned the fact that the ritual has been completed!
DM: They are correct; I did not reiterate because you said you were listening while you were finding something to drink.
