Do you gain a bonus to ranged weapons while running?

I could have sworn you gain a +2 to you AC or something against ranged weapons when running, but I can't find it in the phb. Have I been imagining it?

You may have been thinking of GURPS. It has a rule that states if you're moving X or more in a given round, you're harder to hit with ranged attacks.

And if you run and don't have the run feat you lose your dexterity and dodge bonuses.

Though if you run to the next range increment, thier attack bonus goes down 2 points due to range increment.

Also, generally speaking, unless you're in a very flat area there'll be -something- that can provide you at least a certain degree of cover if you throw yourself behind it, though you may have to drop prone.

Actually, if running, you LOSE your Dex bonus....

Stalker, you aren't the only one to think this... I thought there was such a rule myself. Perhaps in 3.0 rules? I know you lose the Dex mod to AC when running, but I thought that (since you are a faster moving target) the opponents had a -4 to hit you.

You could always drop prone after you run :)

Yeah it seems pretty weird that a guy running flat out is technically easier to hit with a bow than a guy just moving around in a 5 foot square. While skilled shooters are taught leading techniques, ask any machine gunner how hard it is to shoot down an airplane.

But then you would need a rule that took into account in what direction the runner is going relative to you.

If he is going straight away (or close to) it will easy. Essentially he is standing still relative to the direction of your shot and don't even know when you fire.

If he is going across relative to you it would be difficult, and you would need to use the difficult leading technique. The more across (perpendular ?) he is going relative to you, the more difficult.

And remember the guy moving only 5 ft. is assumed to keep an eye out and take defensive action against attacks, including shots. The runner ain't. Running in D&D is essentially a 100 meter dash type of run.

Remember, running in DnD combat is essentially hauling ass at top speed with your arms flailing in the air. Not at all smart thing to do, but has some merits if your enemy is attacting the rest of the party.

No. This was in the 3.0 rules and removed in 3.5.
