The number and type of dice depend largely on what game/edition you're playing, what character type, and what power level. A mid-level AD&D wizard, for instance, needs a boatload of d6's. A White Wolf character calls for roughly five billion d10's. Pretty much any D&D character needs a couple of d20s, and a 4E character with area attacks needs 4 or 5.(You can get by with less, but it takes longer since you have to roll the same die several times instead of rolling a bunch of dice once.)That said, it's mostly a collector thing. Gamers with dice are like dragons with treasure. Dice are pretty and sparkly and it's deeply satisfying to have them in great quantity.</blockquote>
