Do you prefer a single style of campaign?

All the games I have played or run have been plot-driven.

I would really like to play or run a sandbox campaign, but I don't have the time to create one and no one I know has tried to run one.

One preference I do have is for DnD. It's something about the setting and mind-set I bring to the table that just makes it work. I have tried a lot of other settings* and haven't been comfortable with any of them.

*Shadowrun, Rolemaster, Warhammer, Call of Cthulu, Starwars...

Heh. I'm of the opinion that a good humour game is extremely hard to do. One of the GM's in my group just did a great one based on the Discworld world. Very very funny. Great group to do it with as well. But, yeah, I don't think I would pull it off very well. I know I wouldn't pull it off as well as he did.
It seems like for me, it's hard not to do. No matter how serious I try to be, we always end up doing some kind of screwball caper type game that's hilarious to watch and participate in.

I think, Hobo, that I would differentiate between humour in the game and a humourous game. I have a player who often plays a ... erm ... less than serious character. He just enjoys blowing off some steam during the game and likes to bring teh funny. He's pretty damn good at it too, so, no worries.

To be fair, I don't mind playing a less than serious character myself.

But, running a game that is intentionally funny I think is very hard. Kind of like running a true horror game where it is actually scary to the players, rather than just a zombie slasher film.

I think humour games work for short runs. But a lengthy one is a bit harder. Kinda like how OOTS has gone from a gag strip to a more serious story with the odd joke thrown in.

I really like the teen genre (Teen X-Men, Final Fantasy) or anything focusing on childhood (Myazaki, Narnia). So I tend to like campaigns that center around teens or young adults who find themselves through the trails of adventuring. I also like magitek scenarios where mecha and knights fight side-by-side.

I usually focus on relationship or trashy pop culture-based plots as well.
