I voted "other".

Coming at this from a 1E prespective, I'd want to pull the chain, but I wouldn't just haul off and do it. First I'd try find traps or augury or clairvoyance spells. After all, maybe there is a trap there and the rogue blew his roll. If nothing like that is available, then I'd send a summoned monster to pull the chain, or use something like dreadwolf's method to pull it remotely.

Same. I'd pull it - from a distance with telekinesis or with a summoned critter, or with rope, but only AFTER all the proper divination spells were cast.

You are in a large, bowl shaped white room. A central pool of water of unknown depth looks to be about ten feet wide.

A green stain depends from a slot up near the ceiling.

A long chain hangs from the center of the room, with a Y shaped handle.

What do you do?... :p
Amazingly, no one has ever fallen for my cunningly disguised trap....

The Auld Grump

:-) in the hall of the porcelain god.

The key is "You’ve finished off your objective in this dungeon". You are done with that dungeon. Live and decide what your next quest will be.

But then the that little voice says, "maybe we'll get some really cool stuff if we pull that chain".

Open the portable hole, command your undead former comrade to climb out and pull the chain for you.

I am the party meatshield. Int is my dump stat. Summoned creatures and telekinesis are for poncy wizards. Subtlety and pitons and ropes are for elves, and elves screw trees. You don't screw trees, do you? DO YOU?

Yer goddam right I pull the chain.

What next?

I'm wondering how we missed this room in our dungeon sweep, actually. Would have been found and chain would have been pulled loooong before we achieved the objective, surely.

Would use a mule, a ten foot pole and the party's "meat shield"...
