To me, Asimov and Burroughs are gods (and Moorcock is a demi-god). Burroughs turned me on to reading when I was about twelve years old, followed quickly by Asimov. Personally, I find immense re-read value in the old stuff and it is there, more often than not, that I take my own inspiration from. Might have to do with me reading it during my own 'golden age.' A lot of people love Piers Anthony and Robert Jordan, but I just can't get into it myself -- probably because I didn't form that bond when I was younger.
