Do you think Eberron will go the way of Ghostwalk?

First Post
I remember when Ghostwalk was getting ready to come out. There were rumors and whispers and a great deal of anticipation.

I have read some of the book and have found the setting interesting, I have not heard of many, if any, people using this setting.

I don't know of any supplements or modules for Ghostwalk and have heard almost nothing about it, other than the 3.5 update coming up.

I'm not saying the Ghostwalk is bad, but in my opinion, does not appear to be well-supported and has fallen by the wayside.

So, do you think the same will happen to Eberron?

I'm under the impression that Ghostwalk, like the old Odessey campaign books was designed to be a one-off. I think the lack of support is thus completly intentional.

I serously doubt Eberron will die out shortly after relase, but time will tell.

I think it's significantly less likly for Eberron to go the way of Ghostwalk simply as they are a different sort of campaign setting each.

It would be more fair to compare Eberron against the potential of going the way of Greyhawk.

Ghostwalk was really, ultimately, a location setting, that could really be insert anywhere as opposed to a Campaign World such as Eberron, Forgotten Realms, and Greyhawk.

I doubt it. Wizards is going on full-tilt total support for the new contest-winning setting, not just as the game product line, but novels and a MMORPG. Ghostwalk don't have that kind of support which, BTW, the last work Sean K Reynolds did as a regular employee of Wizards.

They're hopping to do what they once did with Forgotten Realms back in the late 80's and all through the 90's.

IIRC Ghostwalk was sort of a "pet project" of Monte Cook and Sean K Reynolds, and there weren't any "big plans" (supplements, novels, ...) for it. WotC hasn't made such a fuss about Ghostwalk [I first typed Greyhawk... ;) ]. And Ghostwalk wasn't a full-fledged campaign setting.

Now compare that to Eberron.

What was Ghostwalk?

Caveat - I don't have the book. However, I believe that Ghostwalk was a campaign centered around a city where characters immediately manifested as ghosts (different from the standard Ghost template) when killed and could still continue adventuring after they died.

I believe what annoyed a lot of people about the book (it certainly annoyed me) was that it used 3.0 rules and was released at about the same time as 3.5e.

I doubt very much that Ebberon will suffer the fate of Ghostwalk. Just the infomation I've seen about Ebberon has my brain cooking up plenty of campaign ideas. Thats something that no setting has done since I played my first time in the Realms.

Also, as everyone else is saying Ghostwalk was a one off.

Anyway,later

will :]

Then I'm one of a few people that are not annoyed by it. I'm glad it's a 3e product, since I'm not one of those who jumped into a pool of sharks trying to get 3.5e. (Really, I don't know what's all the fuss about 3.5e. Feh. Meh.) ;)

HOWEVER, the Ghostwalk product just do not appeal to me. Not my kind of flavor, I guess. So, that product is aimed at some other audience.

Heck, I don't know if Eberron is appealing for me. I'm already content with Forgotten Realms (bought it when it first came out in the late 80's).
