Always but mainly to hide notes and maps. Up until a few years ago I always rolled behind the screen but then I changed to rolling in open as it got a better reaction from my players.

I dislike GM screens both as a GM and a player. If you need reference sheets lay them flat on the table. I like all rolls to be visible, players and GM.

Yeah, I'll use a DM screen, but all my combat rolls are in the open.

I can't use portrait screens, too tall for me, has to be landscape.

I used to use them and always made my own. I stopped using one when I switched to a lectern.

The ipad is for using Zoom when I run my remote game, not for notes or to look stuff up. I have another camera pointed at the table.

Edit to add: There is a usually a dice tower in front of the lectern, where I roll in the open for in-person games. For online games, there is no camera pointed at the dice, but then again everyone is rolling with their own dice on the honor system.

I used to use them for things like having tables before me at all times. But I play almost entirely online now, so screens are really convenient anymore

I wonder if there is a decently mobile lectern solution. I want to use one when I run at cons.
