Dungeon Master's Screen (2024)

D&D (2024) New DM Screen Revealed By NZ Retailer

I priced one out when the KS was active but it was way too expensive for me. They looked nice but even the base model was pretty expensive and adding all the other cool stuff came out to $700 IIRC. Looks like you can order directly from their site but if I'm not mistaken all the components are handmade/made to order so their lead times might be out pretty far as some of the stuff is pre-order now. The link does say kickstarter so you could be right, if you pre-order from their site perhaps it re-directs to KS.

yeah Im pretty sure its via KS, and yes, there is a long wait time, I waited about a year and a half to get mine & three years to get the gaming table (which is still in boxes and Im planning on putting together this summer with the help of a couple of my players). Their stuff is top notch but yeah, expensive

My dream DM screen wasnt a DM screen at all but an old movie theater ticket sales booth. Id black out the glass, install monitors and a laptop in it, and set up cameras in the room to see the players, and a sound system. I could use the microphone to alter my voice while DMing, add sound effects, and have projector for maps on their game table. When a PC dies, I'd make them walk up and put their character sheet in the opening for the money and make them watch in horror as its sucked into oblivion. I always thought that separating the DM from the players would make for a cool game.

I've only ever looked at the table and DM screen and they looked really nice but always struck me as because even the lower tier models are pretty steep, the bigger more expensive models are the way to go. If you are buying a gaming table, I couldn't justify buying anything less than one that seats at least 8 people. Even if you only have 5 or 6 players it gives people plenty of room. I always hated playing at a table where everyone is crowded together.

Supposedly guys like Gygax and Arneson would sit behind filing cabinets or full body screens when they ran games. The first time I ran my current game I sat at a smaller, separate card table than my players because I was using a laptop and a TV to display maps and images and stuff.. It was neat.. and I liked the effect but it was one of those things that was too much work to be worth while.

Now if I had stupid amounts of money and could build a dedicated set up like you're talking about.. I may revisit the idea.

honestly that sounds more exciting than my overprice screen; I hope your dream screen comes true and I hope you share pics

I wish I had the money and space, but alas I don't. I wonder how much one would even cost and where to get one? Usually when malls go out of business the movie theaters are turned into discount theaters so they're probably hard to come by. But I'm going to assume that there's probably more digital self-serve ticket kiosks than actual ticket booths these days.

Ive pre-ordered mine; though when the limited edition slipcase trinity comes out it will likely also have a limited edition screen.

I’ve always liked using a DM screen, hiding notes, monster stats and minis behind it. I tend to roll about 75% for combat and other rolls in the open but the wandering monster roll and such keeps them guessing on why I’m rolling dice.

Looking the layout, this design doesn’t appeal to me like most of the 5e ones have, might be one I wait and see the DM facing side.
