Do you use the Book of Exhalted Deeds or the Book of Hallowed Might?

Which Holier-than-thou book do you use?

There should have been a poll option for neither. I own both books (or at least I did) and don't use either. I also own Book of the Righteous, which I think is a great book, but don't use, nor do I see why it's being discussed here as the focus is very different.

I use Good by Alderac Entertainment Group (AEG) more than the others mentioned, although, as an obsessive purchaser of all things D&D, I own the others as well.

BoVD is a DM-only book in my campaign (I'm the DM).
BoED is a resource *I* implement, bits and pieces here and there.
BoHM is too "Monte" for me. It contains too much of "Monte's D&D" and not enough "core D&D" for me to effectively make it "my D&D".

While I do not believe BoVD should ever have been published by WotC, I admit that it is far more balanced and flavorful than either of its companions -- BoHM and BoED. BoHM lacks the constraint and stablity that WotC imposes, while BoED lacks the creative flair that Monte brings to the table.

WotC lacks flair without Monte.
Monte lacks wisdom without WotC.

I use Good primarily for the priest class. The Cleric is too warrior-ish for some faiths in my game, and the priest fits the bill quite nicely.

Hi,

I have all three of these books.

I've used Book of Exalted Deeds more as there were two exalted characters in my epic game serving Raziel (one of the Celestial Hebdomad) and one, the monk, took the Vow of Poverty.

I've used only one spell, I think, from Book of Hallowed Might, and haven't used Book of the Righteous at all -- although it does have a cool pantheon in it.

I also have the Book of Vile Darkness and have used this quite a bit -- the last epic adventure I ran was set in the Abyss so I used some of the NPCs, plus lots of the spells and some feats. I've also used the spells in two other games -- it's a great source of evil magic.

Cheers

Richard

Of the two books listed in the poll, I have used a good number of the spells from BoHM and nothing at all from BoED.

I have used a lot of material (with a lot of renaming) from Green Ronin's Book of the Righteous -- so far, it is my top pick for the "holy books"

In theory I use both, but I have yet to use anything from either of those books. My players aren't the type to play "Exalted" characters, for starters.

I use neither - though I have used Book of Vile Darkness somewhat. I don't feel the need to supplement what the good folks can do, because so much of the game (feats, classes, etc.) is good-aligned already; even without that consideration, serving others should be its own reward, in my opinion, instead of taking a good vow in order to gain powers, or saving souls in order to stack up bonuses. Instead, damning souls and perpetuating vile acts is the way to reap immediate temporal power, at the cost of being some devil's or demon's plaything in the hereafter. The good guys generally win, anyway, so the evil ones get the charming toys here and now, and the good guys use the tools they have to finish the job and send those unholy wretches where they belong. ;)
