All of the modern-era stories have felt rushed to me, with the problem getting progressively worse.

I liked it when the settings and supporting characters were fleshed out.

My wife introduced me to Doctor Who with Eccleston, and we've watched through all the episoodes starting there except for the last half or so of the most recent season. I have to say that I have liked each Doctor more than the last, and Gatwa has just been divinely entertaining.

So my votes go to Capaldi, Whitaker, and Gatwa (the three most recent). Honorable mention to John Hurt, who is amazing an anything.

True. Though Tom Baker's last series was really not good. I wouldn't say unwatchable, but nearly.
My favorite iteration of Doctor Who is Tom Baker’s final series.

I love Tom’s ominous moodiness throughout, and well pretty much everything else about that series (The Leisure Hive excepted). This is a guy who I believe has seen a universe of evil, and been fighting it for centuries.

IMO.

I've still not really dug into a lot of Classic Who, aside from Troughton, who I like with Jamie, but also is missing so much of his run.

All of the relaunch Doctors have been great. Tennant to me, is probably the iconic doctor now, sorry Tom Baker, but it's true. Whittaker and Gatwa, though, definitely feel underserved. They deserved more time and better stories.

I cannot pick one, or three, favorites. My brain does not rank them (or much of anything) in that manner.
I'm like that, too. As a Comic Guy, everyone always asks me who my favorite character or writer or artist or movie is. I just don't really do favorites. I have "I really enjoyed XYZ about this part of this thing. Does that count?

The great thing about Doctor Who is it’s done just about everything over the decades. Just about anyone can find something to like. And just about any era has fans.

But that glum crankiness just isn’t for me. The only versions I like less are William Hartnell and Colin Baker’s version on TV. I watch for the goof and the panto and the weirdness. Once it starts taking itself seriously I check out.
