Does an established system exist somewhere out there that is a hybridization of D&D's (3.5ish) spell list, and Mage: The Ascension's spheres mechanic?
Basically, what I was hoping to find/make was a system that reduced the majority of D&D's lists and lists and lists of spells into a much smaller, open ended list of schools and effects that could mimic them. So for instance, instead of looking over a spell list and choosing Fireball, you'd look at how your points are spread across a bunch of skills and decide that you wanted a spell that made a lot of fire and that affected a bunch of things that were far away from you.
What I'm looking for doesn't have to perfectly match D&D's spell lists, but I want it to at least be able to fake a bunch of the lower level stuff.
