Does a monk get Improved Unarmed Strike at first level?

In my 3.5 PHB as well as the SRD, it says "Unarmed Strike: At 1st level, a monk gains Improved Unarmed Strike as a bonus feat."

However, for the special abilities listing at 1st level, it says under special: Bonus feat, flurry of blows, unarmed strike

Which is it?

Both.

Monks get Improved Unarmed Strike as a bonus feat or special ability at first level.

Really no difference in terminology between calling it a bonus feat or calling it a special ability.

Likewise, the fact that they called it "unarmed strike" under the special ability column doesn't make it any different from calling it "improved unarmed strike" as a feat. "Unarmed Strike" is what it is. "Improved Unarmed Strike" is the name of the feat.

Terminology doesn't change what it is.

They get flurry of blows ability at first level

They get a bonus feat at first level, selecting between Improved Grapple or Stunning Fist.

As for the "Bonus feat" in the class table, it refers to martial arts feats. In 3.0e, you get Stunning Fist at 1st level, period. In 3.5e, you have a choice of Improved Grapple or Stunning Fist at 1st level. It repeats at 2nd (Combat Reflexes or Deflect Arrows) and 6th levels (Improved Disarm or Improved Trip) with a choice. Alternatively, some gamers just allow any martial arts feat to be taken (usually designated by their DMs).
