We never used weapon speed or casting times. It just slowed things down without measurable benefit to our gaming experience.

Also, I saw some of the charts in Rolemaster and that *really* turned me off to the whole idea. It might be fine if you had a computer program to do everything for you, but otherwise I think it's nuts.

If this were a computer game, then I'd say 'cool', but the beauty of the d20 system is its simplicity, and that just kills it.

I remember writing down all those adjustments on character sheets for my weapons. I also remember that I always forgot to apply them in combat. We all did. Just too much to keep track of, what with THAC0 and all.

Why add another list of numbers to my character sheet that I'll just forget about?

As I said, I played that way for a while too. (HOMER SIMPSON)You wouldn't play with me? I'd play with you? Maybe you should get to know me better(/HOMER SIMPSON).

My only concern with things like this is that invariably it seems that the people who complain loudest about how 1e/2e was terrible are often the ones who are . . . well, not playing the game by the rules. *shrug*

It wouldn't be difficult to add in casting times to spells in 3e if you found that it worked so well, btw. It might also alleviate some of the concerns of the folks who think Wizards are overpowered.

Right! Why I ever put those in still mystifies me--for the sake of combat buffs, I suppose, although that "small bit" wasn't suffienent.

Damme if I didn't again put in weapon speed into the LEJENDARY ADVENTURE game system, and I ignore it too, although it is okay for more detailed initiave determination.

Hey, Colonel H...you beat me to the punch, I was going to post that tidbit as well!

Anyway, I'm glad he did include them.

Guess that makes me either a "combat buff" or a masochist, depending on your point of view ;)

I wonder if his comment will alter the outcome of the poll, which seems to be steady at just around 25% for those who miss the adjustments...

I'm not going to touch that one with a 10-foot pole, a hand mirror and a set of hammer and pitons. I'm not that much of a Bruce Campbell fan. :D

Anyway, the whole point is pretty moot at this point anyway, as 3e has neither.

I miss the weapon vs armor type modifiers from 2nd edition and also speed factors. Only in the fact that 3rd edition runs well, but the flavor of using different weapons vs different armors (like a bashing weapon vs chain, etc) is lost. Also, the power word spells lost alot in my eyes as they had such a low casting time (CT1) where as in 3rd edition you all roll the d20 and add mods for initiave, regardless if you are casting a meter swarm or a one word spell.
