D&D (2024) Does anyone else think that 1D&D will create a significant divide in the community?

no, they are treating it as ‘these are the books we have on our shelves’, that says nothing about what edition this is
The store apparently has books on their shelves from several previous editions, but only lets people play the newest on premises. That strongly suggests that they see it as a new edition.

more like seeing it as the edition that sells, if 3e or whatever sold, they would be out of stock by now

They will sell through their 2014 stock and after that sell the 2024 versions only. Since having games at the store is meant to move product, they play the books / rules they have for sale, simple as that.
As I explained earlier this is about avoiding the case where a new player enjoys their first char, decides to buy the PHB and then has to be told they no longer have that book, but they can play a similar class in a book they do have

1DnD won't cause a split, but people may choose to cause one......and yes, that's not semantics. It's a choice, and some people will decide to be angry and divisive.

At least It is only a division in 0.5% of the community... at most...

Most people who play will probably be happy that their game is supported after 10 years and even gets a minor overhaul (not saying upgrade, because I don't want to offend people by uttering my opinion).

You really think nearly everyone is just going to roll over and re-buy their books?

See. I did not say that. I think most people will either do that or don't and don't go to a forum just to complain. Instead they will just play the game.
New people (players) will eventually buy the new books and at some point they will transition to the newer version.

I did exactly that with 3.5. I used the 3.5 SRD to upgrade what I liked piecemeal.

Edit:
My 2014 books also show so much signs of wear, they could use a refresh. And then, I'd ratger buy the new version instead of buying the same book again...
