Does anyone.....

To be fair, there are, what? 12000 people here on the boards. In a town of 12 thousand you can't possibly know everyone. Some people I form friendships with, others I only know as casual acquaintances. Some, like you, I had managed not to notice even though you've obviously been around, what with your nearly 3,000 posts.

Hey...I know you!

In January circumstanjces keeped me from the boards for a couple weeks. No one noticed or at least said anything about it anywhere on the boards. Out of sight, out of mind. There have been a few threads wondering where peiople have gone, But I can only recall 3 like that in the past year.

Well, it depends. Somtimes people wonder in threads, such as the one about female gamers where I asked where Djeta had gone and poof, she said hello.

Does anyone here feel like if they stopped posting or visiting EN World no one would miss them or comment on it?

No worries. You're golden if Crothian posts in your thread.

Also, you can post a lot of rants and they get all sorts of people chasing you with pitchforks..oh....wait...

I think so. I have met enough people on here in RL, through Gen Con and game days that I would recognize if certain people weren't posting anymore, and I suspect they would notice the same of me.

It might take a month, but it would happen.

And I was thinking about Airwolf the other day, RW. I miss his sigs. :)

edit: he last signed on 2/14/04. :(

I've walked away from these boards for months at a time when my studies and real life were overwhelming me, and without a single comment on my absence except on the private ENPublishing boards where my business partner (Russ) and one of our production managers (Ryan) would bitch about my disappearance.

So, yeah, no one in the general public of the baords noticed my absence. Which isn't that surprising considering my lowly post-count and the fact that we are all used to operating in an environment where people come and people go. Our only snese of continuity is that we see the same names in the posts, week after week. As long as some of those names are still there, we are unlikely to notice the absence of others. That's the nature of the human mind, we notice coincidence, but are oblivious to lack thereof.

Unfortunately- I find this to be the case in real life also. No one gives a damn.

It just sucks to no end and I'm growing tired of it. :(

It is hard to notice when people are gone for a long time in a community like this. But all that matters is that people accept you when you return, and maybe, but not always notice at that time that you were absent for a while.

I wonder all the time what happened to posters but never bring it up.

Personally, I could drop off the face of the planet and I don't think anyone would notice.

I think it's interesting because I recognize everyone who's posted on this thread so far, so it's not like people are completely invisible either. Whenever I don't see people, I assume they're on at a different time or on different forums or something. If I read an old thread and noticed "Last Seen: Four years ago" then it'd tip something off.

I'd like to think that thanks to my annoying tendency to respond to anything directed at me, at least somebody would notice if I stopped posting. Realistically, they probably wouldn't...
