Does anyone.....

While there are 12,000 of us registered at ENWorld, the vast majority are lurkers.

The thing about online messageboards is that you can't physically see people around you and say "Hey, where'd they go?" It's hard to notice when people have dropped off of the boards, since no one (with the possible exception of Crothian) reads and posts into every single thread. There could be a very active poster around who you never see, ever.

I notice when someone posts a whole lot, but when I start seeing them less often, I usually assume that they're posting in other forums on the boards.

I pretty much notice when people disappear, but I'm active in nearly every board here on ENWorld, though I don't usually bring it up.

As for me disappearing...well, I know there are at least a few people that would riot and then hunt me down. Some of them being readers of my Story Hour, but most players in the many games I run here on the boards. I know at least one of them than would track me down and force me to post even if I was in a coma.

I think it's interesting because I recognize everyone who's posted on this thread so far, so it's not like people are completely invisible either.

Wow, you actually recognize me? I'm, I'm honored. Or did you just overlook the little guy in the thread of big peoples' posts? :) Oh man, I would hate to feel THAT invisible...

 No, actually, you tend to have interesting posts. Sure, "tend" is relative since you have a low postcount -- mine are probably much less interesting on avereage. Maybe I have a weird memory.

Or maybe I just like your avatar. :p

What AMG said. If you've got a well-read SH or participate in PbP, people will notice if you disappear.
Oh yeah. Forgot about that. My first PbP GM disappeared and I'm still wondering where he is.

It started off really fun...

I recognize your avatar, if it helps any. :)

no. i pretty much know some people in RL who post here. so if i stopped posting here. i think they would just get ahold of me to see what was up.

whazzzup style

I notice when some people are absent, but the majority slip past me. I note when Ranger Wickett hasn't posted in a while, but that's often because I'm awayting his reply in the EN Publishing Forum. (I'm probably one of the Avatars he recognises.) I noticed that Piratecat hadn't been around (Or that I missed him habitually), until he replied to one of my threads. If Jdvn1 went absent, I''d certanly notice, but that's because he's my hero. If you dropped off, Rysti, I'd probably notice eventually. Maybe.
