Does giving out more Feats affect the Fighter's power?

Fighters will maintain their power only if there are a lot of feats available for them to use. I've seen no problem with a feat-every-level system up to level 6 or so... it might start breaking down a little at high levels because Wizards simply run out of useful feat choices.

OTOH, wizards are already more powerful than fighters, so if they can't use their extra feats usefully it will just be a balancing factor.

are you saying it wouldn't be cool to see a wizard dual-wealding bastard swords and leaping off charging horses at his enemies? :P

If every class, by itself, is created equal, then stuff like the feats everyone gets should not affect the power level of a fighter, since those two things are mutually exclusive

Mutually independent you mean. Exclusive would mean you can have one or the other, while clearly all PCs have both a class and level-based feats.

Anyway, back on topic:

"Would allowing everyone to detect traps over DC 20 with a Search check weaken the Rogue?"

"Would allowing anyone with Craft (Alchemy) to make alchemical items weaken spellcasting classes?"

The answer is yes and no.

The absolute power of each class would remain the same. However, their monopoly on a certain role would decrease. Fighters would still have more Feats than everyone else, but they would no longer have a such a strong monopoly on the good feat chains.

Likewise, Rogues would not have such a strong monopoly on trap finding.

IMHO, it would not break anything at all. Fighters are weak by their own failings, and the fact that they need a resource monopoly to be worthwhile at all is telling.

It is 3 more feats and for feat starved classes that are already as strong/arguably stronger like Paladins or Barbarians it is more of a power boost for them than Fighters. Fighters will get deeper in their chains quicker, Barbarians and Paladins and the like will be able to accomplish things they normally could not. A bonus feat is, from core intentions, roughly equal to a Rogue Sneak Attack Progression(13-9). Would handing out free Sneak Attack dice make someone more likely or less likely to take rogue levels?

Well, sure :p I wrote that at 2:30 am, when I needed to get up in 4 hours for work, so I'm surprized how intelligent that post sounds now anyways :D
