I've got all PHB races where appropriate, as well as some homebrew, and I utilize them to varying degrees, but language is not a big part of the session-to-session gameplay. It's more for flavor, and the common tongue is truly common so that communication doesn't become an obstacle to play.
 

I'm developing a fairly comprehensive list of languages and dialects for my homebrew. A lot of players don't care about language, but I can't help it; I'm a linguist, so I am natually inclined to include detailed languages.
