Why would a crocodile, which is 8 to 10 feet long, occupy a 5x5 square and not a 5x10? I'm just not seeing the logic.

I'm wondering because my Druid uses it as a shape change form fairly often.

Because it is only a medium-size creature. Cheetahs, boars, and black bears, for example, are the same.
