Does this work? (Counter Spells and Quicken Spells) and how do you counter spells?

Does this work?

Can you cast a quicken spell on your turn and then still ready an action to counter a spell?

My first guess is yes since casting a quickend spell is a free action.

Can you counter a spell as a readied action and use a scroll to counter the spell being cast?

I don't see a problem with it since it says under casting a spells from a scroll is a spell completion and everything is just like casting the spell normally, but I have been wrong, mostly from errata, before ;) :) :D

Also, other than Improved Counterspelling from the PHB, what other counter spell feats or tricks do you like? Any WOTC source is open, please list book and page if possible.

Looking for non-epic feats, but I do like epic feats, so good to know about any if ya run across them and care to list them. I do however know about the counterspelling feat from, err, I forget, but there is an epic counterspelling feat in one of the Forgotten Realms books. Dang, there are way too many books.

Yes.

No. You must actually cast the spell yourself, because:

If you do, and if you can cast that same spell (are able to cast it and have it prepared, if you prepare spells), you can cast the spell as a counterspell and automatically ruin the other spellcaster’s spell.

You can't alter a scroll in the same way, so you can't counterspell off of a scroll. However, if I were to allow items to be used to counterspell, I'd allow spell completion items (like scrolls), but not spell trigger items (like wands).

So, are my only options for counterspelling non-epic feats going to Improved counterspelling from the PHB and the counter spelling mastery from the Arch-mage PrC class?

There is a Forgotten Realms feat Reactive Counterspell (Magic of Faerun p.22) and Dampen Spell (PHB II p.78). Reactive Counterspell is what you're really wanting, it allows a character to attempt to counterspell 1/round without readying a counterspell action (though you do lose you next action in the round). Though Dampen Spell doesn't allow a counterspell, you can use it out of turn and without readying to reduce the effectiveness of an incoming spell, quite nice.

Reactive counterspell? Isn't that epic? Hmm, have to look when I get home, thanks.

I forgot about dampen.

It's not epic. Prereq is Improved Counterspell and Improved Initiative.

Whenever a creature casts a spell that you're aware of, you can attempt to counterspell it as an immediate action. You can use dispel magic or an actual counterspell. You can only do this once per round, and if you use this ability, you give up . . . I don't recall. You either count as already having taken a standard action on your next turn, or you give up your entire next turn. I don't recall which.

If I were writing the feat, I'd make it so that you just give up a standard action in your next round.

It is a bit vague on what you are to give up. The way it is worded it sounds like you give up your last turn.

I'm trying to talk the DM into the spell fire feat, that would work great with reactive counter spell, I think

Anyway, an you take your regular turn and then ready to counter a spells with a quickened spell? The oppisite of my original question.

By the rules, no, because readying an action is itself a standard action. I, however, would allow a player who wants to use a quickened dispel magic (7th level spell) when it's not his turn. That seems like a fair use of the spell to me.
