Does you Library support gaming

In the news recently there were discussions about the availabilty of porno in the public library. No library I have ever seen has had any roleplaying material in it. Has anyone seen RPG stuff in a library?

I ask why the heck not!!!!!

Surely WoTC could make more money off of libraries than prisoners.

The library here in town doesn't, but the larger library in San Mateo does have 1 copy each of the PH, DMG, MM, and Psionics Handbook.

Though I doubt the local library has porn in it (haven't asked cuz not interested) I know for a fact that as of 6 months ago they had no role playing material either. Of course the local library is pretty small and in all honesty has a poor selection of almost everything I would want to read excepting cookbooks.

I think the avaliablity of porn is referring to the computers in the libary. People are worried that kids could use or are using the library computer for porn stuff.

On the library question, I have no idea.

Computer porn and magazines. Here in the midwest gaming is evil but porn is king. Several local library's carry Play Boy, for the articles and research in sexual related fields. We do have several community colleges, college brances in the area. You do have to ask for the Play boy, it is not sitting on a shelf.

When I asked about getting RPG material for the library the local board deemed it inappropriate. I am thinking of starting a hobby club at our new library and slowly introducing RPGs to it. I will see how that flies.

THe columbus Public Library has all sorts of misc gaming materials. Most of it's D&D of some type and in various conditions. There was even a fiend folio last time i checked. It's been years since I looked anything up, though. We did have a gaming group that meet at one of the public libraries for a while though.

I work at the NC State University Library, and one of my ultimate goals is to get Gaming materials in there!!!

After all, RPG's can teach many skills -- mathematics, diplomacy, group interactions, linear and non-linear thinking, etc....

Well... There are four libraries in the area that I frequent. The one closest carries pretty good gaming stuff. They have five years' worth of Dragon, Shadowrun rulebook, Car Wars, RuneQuest, Twilight 2000, and some Finnish D&D supplements.
The second closest has the Stormbringer RPG, and many issues of White Dwarf.
The third closest has Dragon and White Dwarf for six years back, but little else in the way of RPG materials.
The last one has Dragon, White Dwarf, White Wolf, and Magus (a local RPG magazine which unfortunately went belly-up two months ago), plus the 2E core rules, old Forgotten Realms box, Twilight 2000, Cyberpunk 2020 and some supplements in Finnish, and miscellaneous MERP and RuneQuest stuff.

Pretty good, wouldn't you say?

My library sucks. The closest thing to a gaming book is something written by Gygax a long time ago that has nothing to do with any game in particular... its about how to be a better game master or something.... and they have exactly one copy... its horrid I tell you, my local library can burn for all I care, its useless!
