Does you Library support gaming

My library sucks. The closest thing to a gaming book is something written by Gygax a long time ago that has nothing to do with any game in particular... its about how to be a better game master or something.... and they have exactly one copy... its horrid I tell you, my local library can burn for all I care, its useless!

Uh... Dave? I hate to tell you this, but a lack of gaming material does not make a library "useless." Especially when you consider that you already own everything that you would want to check out, anyways. *grin*

Growing up, my library had the 1e books and a subscription to Dragon... until my friends systematically stole them. :(

It must be that Massachusetts state of mind thing again.

Speaking of which, "Massachusetts" is almost as hard to type as "Woolloomooloo".

Hmm not sure recently but when I was last there (before 3e came out) our local library had the 2nd edition phb and I think dmg (the earlier printings, not the skills + powers era ones).

That was it though.

You should look at the Derry Public Library before you say its not useless. It really is useless, if your doing research its pointless to go there unless you want horribly outdated information....

In the news recently there were discussions about the availabilty of porno in the public library. No library I have ever seen has had any roleplaying material in it. Has anyone seen RPG stuff in a library?

I ask why the heck not!!!!!

Surely WoTC could make more money off of libraries than prisoners.

They would love too but my local library has a very high theft rate.

A few years ago the library bought some second edition books but within a few months they were gone.

In a small district there isn't a lot of funds to replace a $20+ book that going to be stolen

This has been a problem at several librariesI have visited that have had D&D books.

OTOK if you go to a lot of the libaries in a district you can sometimes find some odd ball gaming books I have seen first edition DMG's and once a Pendragon Companion (in the History section no less)

University libraries are IMO a better place to have RPG books. There is more control over the acess and less loss

It was a state named "Connecticut," actually. And "Woolloomooloo" is as good as my favorite Colombian name, "Fusagasuga".

Hey, what did you mean by "HBT"?

I've got a funny story about this...

Once I was in a library, introducing some people to D&D, and we were rolling up some characters. Then an elderly man, wearing the badge that signified him as an employee of the library, came over. He said that the presence of dice in the library suggested that we were gambling. He kicked us out.

I wonder, does anyone play high stakes Candyland? :p

Man, that so sucks, especially since I met my current gaming group in the Library I work at!

(They were gaming in one of the student study rooms, I was shelving books, heard distinct Gamer-speak and die-rolling, and the rest... is history...).

... and now I'm slowly introducing Gaming to most all of my co-workers... muah hah hah... ;)
