Yes! My PC was Fareena the cook, engaged by the owner of a wagon train for her culinary prowess. She started going out with some of those adventurers armed with her trusty iron frying pan in case things got tough!

An early conversation with one of the other PCs:

Don: "Hi, I'm Don, I'm a bard. What are you?"
Fareena: "I'm a cook"
Don: "yeah, but what do you do?"
Fareena: "I cook things".

She had three skill points per level (2 from class, 1 from human) and she maxed out concentration, intimidation and profession(cook).

Definitely one of my most-fun characters :D

BTW, when Fareena reached the heady heights of 4th level spells, and could cast polymorph self, she proudly declared

"No longer am I a humble cook! Now I am FAREENA THE CHEF!"

She was definitely not the 'mum and apple pie' type cook. She was the fearsome and irascible head chef style cook. Hence the intimidation.

I give you Thom Thom Thompson, battle cleric of Thor, a character in one of my 4th edition Wilderlands campaigns. Thom Thom uses a cast-iron pan statted as a warhammer, and wears Blackiron Scale Armor which gives him Resist 5 (fire), so he can reach right into the campfire coals to pull out a baked potato.

He's a 4th edition character, so no Profession skill to speak of, but I felt like I'd be remiss not to share him in this thread.

I like the picture, it made me laugh. :)

Picture and the description! Good stuff.

We have a halfling in our group. Yep. He can cook. He can cook really well. Then, when we get into a fight, he somehow ignores the spices and just looks at our enemies. They get burned, electrocuted, frozen, held in place, or just run away in terror sometimes. Afterward, we have more good food.

We had a halfling ranger, who was had ranks in profession (cook) and profession (baker) which he learned from his mom, an innkeeper. Along his travels, he searched for new food items of interest. If the food was exceptionally good, he exchanged recipes with the cook or baker and then supplied his mother with new recipes upon his visits home.

I voted "No" because Jak our halfling torch-bearer/cook is a Hireling, and not technically a member of the party. We frequently remind him of that by making him sleep in the stables when we're at an Inn. After all, someone has to watch the mounts.
