Doing other stuff while grappling

In the Barrow of the Forgotten King (which I'm running tomorrow) there's a Water Weird. It can slam characters and then grapple and suffocate them. I'll have 6 PCs so my question is - can it have one guy grappled and drowning while still shooting its water bolts at others (Extraordinary ability). Or once it's got someone grappled is it basically defenceless - apart from the chance they hit the guy it's grappling?

Improved Grab
The creature has the option to conduct the grapple normally, or simply use the part of its body it used in the improved grab to hold the opponent. If it chooses to do the latter, it takes a -20 penalty on grapple checks, but is not considered grappled itself; the creature does not lose its Dexterity bonus to AC, still threatens an area, and can use its remaining attacks against other opponents.

Thanks Frank - that makes it a harsh choice between scaring one player or hurting many.
I'll have to let it spawn servitor mini-me mooks doing 1d3 water-bolts to keep it interesting.

Well, there is a savage species feat that reduces the penalty from -20 to -10.

Ooooh - for ranged touches while grappling that's worth grabbing - you're a genius!

Found it - Multigrab! I'll have to actually read that book one day :)
