Domain of Dread: Graefmotte

The second Domain of Dread is up

Looks interesting, with a nice range of threats and ample roleplaying opportunities, though possibly more suitable for the weekend in hell trip to Ravenloft, rather than as the base for a campaign.

I've scanned through it and like it. Not sure if I'd use it, although I do like the idea of some of the PC's being born in the Shadowfell - hmm creepy.

It is not a cliché as some of the old skool ravenloft settings, but then it does lose a little of the other-worldy horror, but I need to read more of the character descriptions to get a good feel of the place.

I like the art, especially the butcher.

I do notice they use "purgatory" improperly. Purgatory is a place of purgation for the consequences of sins already forgiven by God's grace, not a place where sins themselves are purged. Sins are something you have to make amends for when you are still alive, through confession and reconciliation.

This is more like the Greek Hades, where life is pretty much the same as it is for the living, only it is gloomy and it sucks.

Nice to have a "small" Domain of Dread. While the previous one was clearly aimed at paragon, this one is heroic through and through. A single town beset by evil (and rotting from within), instead of a large city. I wonder if for an epic domain we'll have a whole nation, like in the Ravenloft setting? Maybe one of the old ones could be revived.

Interesting that one of the most potentially helpful NPCs is a priest of Asmodeus.

I find it kinda odd that the domain wit as created by what was really an accidental death, though his lack of remorse about it means Lord Graef probably would have done it anyway even if his son hadn't suffered Death By Falling Over. Perhaps it was the perfect storm of cowardice, manslaughter, remorselessness, and cruelty.
