Domain suggestions for a Cleric

Greatwyrm

Been here a while...
Well, my Druid got turned into a Shadow when we played on Saturday, so I had to make a new character. Since our party doesn't have a full-time Cleric, that's what I'm going with. I have pretty much all the details taken care of, except for the domains.

The character concept I have in mind is a woman who has basically had everything in her life taken or destroyed by evil along the way. She is now on a life-long mission to destroy evil, by any means necessary.

None of the basic gods seem to really fit, so I was going to play a philosophical cleric (no god, pick two domains and a philosophy) and I'm pretty much limited to the domains in the PHB. I thought Chaotic Good would fit the alignment pretty well.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

If you're really railing against all things evil, Good is a nice domain. Knowledge is good for sniffing out evil and its hiding places and so forth. If you're gonna be a battle-cleric, War is worth a look.

If you can convince your DM, see if you can use the Retribution domain from FR. Seems like it would be very fitting.

I would take knowledge and good, nice compliments to each other and they fit the evil hating philosopher idea pretty well too.

Good and Strength?

just that - a suggestion.

off the top of my head, i have trouble these days recalling exactly which domains are in the PHB, as opposed to the dozens of supplements floating around.

Well...if she has a philosophy of maximizing her use of the tools that will allow her revenge and that will help prevent atrocities like this in the future...

I could see War and Magic being good choices.

Assuming this is a Greyhawk campaign, Why would not Hironeous or St. Cuthbert fit, exactly - especially with Saint Cuthbert being the god of retribution, and all? Plus, Lawful Good, or Lawful Neutral would seem a better fit for an expunger, rather than an individualist like a Chaotic Good character.

All of these are just directional questions - but if you are set on Chaotic Good, then Good and Strength or Good and Destruction are both sound choices.

I don't know what setting you're playing in but here are a few stabs at the idea:

1. Strength and Destruction (a cleric of St. Cuthbert, god of Retribution--as described in the PH).

2. Elf and War (a cleric of Shevarash, FR elven god of vengeance, and hating drow). It's the perfect set up to build an archer cleric.

3. A N cleric of Kelanen (N demigod of swordsmanship--domains Luck and War--favored weapon: any martial sword). Pick Greatsword as your weapon and go to town. You could play it as devoting yourself utterly to the art of swordsmanship and war--so much that destroying your enemies has overshadowed any cause you might be fighting for. (And if your DM decides that your merciless behavior turns you NE rather than N, you can still be a cleric of Kelanen).
