Donnie Darko (Spoilers)

I kind of liked it. Or rather I liked it a lot. However, I was dissappointed by the time-travel ending. I don't mind time travel per se but I do hate the "it was all just a dream"-ending it added up to. I hate a it-was-just-a-dream-ending because it make me feel like I watched nothing.

Donnie Darko made me think of Mullholland Drive. That's an "interactive" movie too as the experience becomes much more profound after googling it. :)

The best moment in Donnie was in the cinema when Donnie, with a wry smile, asked the bunny: "Why are you wearing that stupid bunny-suit?". The look on Donnies face is priceless.

I liked it - I've only seen the original, but I liked how much was not resolved down to the last detail.

Makes a change from sports too!

The twist at the end of Memento really tweaked my interest. Great movie. I'll keep an eye out for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind- thanks for the tip.
Eternal Sunshine is a good movie and I enjoyed it a lot (usually Jim Carrey would put me off anything).

Have the Original only...

My wife watched with me, and she dug it as much if not moreso than I did. She's somewhat fanatically anti-time-travel, in general (she doesn't like the time paradox aspect of it, it enrages her for some reason), but she didn't mind it here because it was compelling on many other levels

This popped into my mind the second time I watched it...

"It is a twisted reverse of 'It's a Wonderful Life' ".

we even investigated some philosophy on predestination- all because of one movie.

Do not forget Self-determination.
An effort (to me at least) went to show that Donnie had 'issues'. Many of them which at our present level of understanding are not quite in the persons control. Except through meds... and meds carry their own set of problems.

OK... back to sleep.

She (and I) also enjoyed movies like Memento and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind; those two came to mind immediately as I watched Donnie Darko.

That's funny...It seams we have similar tastes in movies. I lump those movies together for the exact same reason (though Eternal Sunshine is more sentimental than thought provoking)...and all three stack up among my favourite all time movies. Memento, I consider my absolute favourite (with Donnie Darko)

If you like those three movies Eric, here's another movie for you and your wife to look out for, it's called 'Primer'...and, by all accounts, it has a very similar feel.
