Don't Panic! (OT Advice Thread)

Ummm.

Hmmmmm.

Well...If you're, ya know...ever in a dark wooded area...at night (thats why its dark!)...near a lake...and stuff...don't ever go see what "that strange noise" was.

"Always have a quarter in your pocket. A coin flip can make the most interesting decisions."

But we're gamers, let a d20 replace the coin. In fact, I used that this past Sunday, deciding between a vanilla and a banana malt from Sonic. 1-10 vanilla, 11-20 banana. The vanilla won with a 4.

You get more options using a d20, too. Easy to make decisions among 2, 4, 5, 10, or 20 different things. Well, just about any number if you allow re-rollings for things like 19 options, reroll 20's. Or for things like 40 options, roll once, on 1-10 add 20 to the second roll. Alright, I'll stop now...

There is no such thing as safe sex, and no amount of latex will ever change this fact.

Sure there is! Abstinence!

Don't have any children. Wear sunscreen. Buckle your seatbelt. Don't do drugs. If you do, stop. Keep your room clean. Share. Exercise. If it's just a cat, run. Pander only to yourself. Be prepared. Whistle while you work. Ask questions. Don't eat anything you can't spell. Try to think positive. Except when it's just a cat.

Career paths D20

1 Study computer science for years so that you can go to work one day for a .com. Watch the market crash and all of your nice stuff go walking off with nice men in blue jumpsuits.
2-3 study abroad to become an MD.
4-6 Work like :D :D :D :D to do something niche, like become a game designer.
7-10 Live at home for a year while considering "options." At the end of the year, reroll.
11-13 Live in a van down by the river. Home-grow herbs for profit and excitement!
14-16 Spend 4 years in a liberal arts college while hugging rainbows and studying trees.
17-19 Become a lawyer
20 Wake up one morning and find out you're Bill Gates (life is grand and your haircut just came back into style. No, really it did. Would I joke about something like that with one of the richest men in the world? What do you mean you're moving my office into the basement? That's my stapler!)

Learn not to hate.

Hear! Hear!

I say again: Hear! Hear!

In a more general way, don't rehearse your grievances, grudges, and complaints. That will only make you unhappy, irritable, spiteful, and more unhappy. Make a habit of thinking of the good things about people, the good things that are going to happen, and your reasons not to kill yourself.

"Always remember that your enemies is not a villain in his own eyes. This may allow you to make him your friend. And if not, at least you can kill him quickly and without hate." [Robert Heinlein]

Wonder 'why?' And if possible ask.

Ask 'How does anybody know that?'

Read every day. Watch only television you are really interested in.

"Do not believe anything simply because you have heard it said.
"Do not believe in traditions simply because they have been handed down for generations.
"Do not believe anything simply because it is spoken and rumoured of by many.
"Do not believe anything simply because it is written about in books.
"Do not believe anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders.
"But if, after observation and analysis, you find that something agrees with evidence and is conducive to the good and benefit of all, accept it with all your heart and live up to it with all your effort." ["Kalamala Sutra", Gautama Siddhartha Sakya]

Agback.
