Downer - I just don't get it

Is it me? I just don't get Downer. I've tried to follow it hoping it gets better. The story just doesn't make sense. Is there a plot? All I can figure out is that someone is in a city called Oubliette. I have no idea what they are trying to do. I can't figure out from one panel to the next who is doing what.

Is this the new trend in comics?

I look forward to downer myself.

It's just a tale about a goofy anti-hero dark elf. As far as a deep reaching story arc - I have yet to detect one.

Downer is stupid

I don't like downer. The art sucks, the story sucks. If Paizo really wants to improve Dungeon then remove Downer. I rather have Poly (and I am glad that will be gone).

As diaglo has so inspired me with his many posts, I shall now commit the highest act of flattery through imitation...

my hat of downer know no limits!!!

And seriously, this strip is the biggest waste of space I've seen in Dungeon (or even Dragon) in a long time--maybe ever. It seems the author/artist has some great story in mind that the rest of us don't know about and he isn't bothering to tell that story in the strip.

Of course, I believe in never raising a complaint without a solution, so I say...

Bring back Wormy!
(and move him over from Dragon, of course)

No really Downer sucks and is a waste of space. It's also a drain on the color printing, which is something that needlessly drove the price of Dungeon up.

Bring back the classic black and white format (to save money) and please return to all amateur adventures. I don’t like paying so much for really weird adventures that wouldn’t be published by WotC/Hasbro.

That being said there are some new ideas that are good, critical threats and some of the others. They should also try to include some “maps of mystery” that are useable. Many are illogical in layout and/or too weird to fit into my game, whatever happened to the classic wizard’s tower or god’s temple. They have some of these but they’re all weird like a tower in a lava field or a temple that’s a really big open space with columns. Where do the clerics sleep? And eat, bath, read, cook, and such?

They need to start making more universally useful items and fewer niche items.

Bad comics are a tradition of Dragon (and by extension Dungeon) just as is bad fiction. I can't understand who reads either (why not just buy a good comic?) and it's distressing to see features being clipped from the magazine(s) to accommodate them. I'd add Dragon's utterly pointless Silicon Sorcery column to that list also.

It's the same general feeling of annoyance I get from Fantasy Flight's increasing habit of padding their (quite expensive) sourcebooks with substantial previews of other sourcebooks. It's just padding, and self indulgent padding at that.

Yeah, Downer sucks. As does Mt. Zogon, which is even worse. Mt. Zogon, to be precise, is so bad it´s not even funny anymore.

Bring back Nodwick or give me Dork Tower.
