There system is flawed to where it corrupts normal browser operation, and they need to be informed about it.
Let's see... I am going to take a wild guess that in over 90% of the Acrobat reader installations, that the checkbox for opening PDFs in the browser is checked, since this is the default setting.
Sounds to me that opening a PDF in the browser when one is launched from the web is considered normal browser operation.
Ok, I understand. I guess we are just different, in that I consider it being helpful instead of babysitting. Also when you work with them you don't have to "trying to sound like an expert", it just comes natural to speak in acronyms as they are. Properly searching would yield anyone the information they need. The first thing in Google is a wikipedia page on what a BHO is. From there people can find whichever product they wish to help them remove them.
I am not going to babysit people on the internet and get their computers working perfectly for free, they should be able to at least use Google and search for things.
I will agree that classic asp is not the best way to go, and that they could make a change from their current download.asp to allow users to get a list of links directly to PDFs that they are authorized to view.Again, WotC needs to make it where people can save an article or compiled issue without having to jump through stupid hoops and allow natural and normal internet viewing to continue without what I would consider to be a virus since it alters the way your computer works for the personal gain of WotC, by trying to force a PDF to be viewed in a browser rather than letting you save it for viewing later. Portable Document Format, not View Only While on WotC Website Document Format. (VOWoWWDF)
But WOTC is not "forcing" anyone to open the PDF in the browser. They just haven't provided a server side alternative. Either way, there are a large number of sites that do just what WOTC is doing for security reasons. Just ask anyone in the Health & Wellness, Finance/Banking or Insurance industries what the SOP is with regards to secure access to downloads.
It's an easy fix for the end user, especially if someone is helpful enough to explain how.
And please don't insinuate that I am an internet bully. I asked you, quite plainly, to back off the personal attacks before.
