[DP9] D20 Mecha Compendium

TO Marc A. Vezina:

Will your d20 Mecha Compendium product still use the Mecha d20 rules by Guardians of Order, or not?

Just wondering since GOO has been so mum and not hyping it up regarding their product as of late?

Yes. In fact, we just got the final version of the rules and are rechecking our numbers to make sure the totals are right.

Note that our book will be useable on its own (there are stats explanations in the first chapter); you'll just get access to more options, like design and modification rules, by getting the GoO book as well.

My question is, is the book going to be a stand alone product, or is it going to follow rules set by another companys product, or follow the d20 modern version of mecha in the polyhedron?

thnx

So upon reviewing GOO's rules in your hand, what's your opinion?

Good stuff, mostly effect-based, relying on D20 established conventions whenever possible. (For example, Chameleon Cloaking System follows the standard rules for Invisibility.) In many ways, a mecha is a similar to a monster or a construct.

Design-wise, their system is mid-way between our own Silhouette rules and Tri-Stats: pick the d20 game stats you want/need, check how many Mecha Points they cost and add the total.

I'd rather let the GoO people explain at greater length. :)

Is it more than enough to run mecha games similar to Escaflowne or Robotech?

Certainly. In fact, two settings in the book (Guardians of Divinity and Space Ranger Ouroboros) are pretty close to the shows you've mentioned.

I own several of the Jovian chronicals books and look forward to how it's going to be handled.

If you already play the Silhouette version of Jovian Chronicles, this book won't bring you anything new beyond the d20 stats for the main exo-armors of the setting. Just a friendly warning. :)

The Mecha Compendium is very much aimed at d20 players who have not read or used our books before. Therefore, the setting material for Heavy Gear, Jovian Chronicles and Gear Krieg is all existing material (why re-invent the wheel? it's all new to them anyway).

Also what's the Guardians of Order system?

A new set of rules they've designed especially to create and run mecha and vehicles in d20. See my previous message.

But what about those that do? The idea of using a Hunter Commando against a dragon sounds appealing. :D
