The sample is cool, but it also show that the book is not in color, or is the sample in B&W due to some strangeness with the file?

I would really like to have a book from dp9 with full color for all vehicle illustration.

BTW, is the book harcover or softcover?

(It won't change the fact that I've already pre-ordered it when it was announced on gaming report, but I'm still curious)

Is this going to be a one-shot product, or will there more support for d20 Mecha in the near future (more mecha books, campaign setting, etc.)?

It very much depends on the success of the book. We're mulling a second tome with more settings, or more data on existing settings, but nothing has been decided (and won't until we see some sales numbers).

I know that several people on the DP9 mailing lists want to do Silhouette game stats for the new mecha. I'm sure we'll see support articles or adventures appear at some point as a Web add-on, too.

All illustrations were made in color, but the book is printed in grayscale. We just didn't have the pre-orders required to safely go for full-color printing, which is expensive as all heck (unless you print 100,000 copies like WotC).

(We could have, mind you -- we just didn't like the level of risk involved.)

Softcover. A limited hardcover version might come later, but it would be much more expensive.

Have you considered making a PDF with those color illustration?
You could sell it on RPGnow, with the Silhouette stats made by the fan, and add contents that was cut.

What do you think of this idea?

I'm going to say this again, I'm not a fan of limited/collector's edition books if that is the only way one can get such a product in hardcover format.

Personally, I would pay between $30-$40 for a standard edition in hardcover.

I'd pop down $40 for a hardcover myself.

Preorders have benefits but drawbacks too...

Still, I'll be getting this puppy and if a special edition comes out latter... that too!

d20 Mecha Compendium update

We just confirmed with our printer that the d20 Mecha Compendium (http://www.dp9.com/Products/d20mecha.htm) will be arriving here today or tomorrow at the latest, so it should ship out to distributors before the end of the week. This means it should be in stores in early March.

Make sure you've set your pre-order for it -- we've printed to a good safety margin, but the order numbers are higher than we expected (probably because of the d20 factor).

Just as a reminder, this is a stand-alone book that can be used with any genre of d20 campaigns (yes, including D3E and other popular d20 settings). Though coupling it with Guardians of Order's upcoming d20 Mecha will bring maximum useability, our book contains all the info you need to use those mecha in a game!

That's not good.

If you are printing B&W art, do it originally in B&W. Most colour art converted to greyscale looks bad.
Eg: the art in BESM Fantasy Bestiary looks terrible compared to the original colour art on Niko Geyer's website.
