[DP9] D20 Mecha Compendium

That's not good.

If you are printing B&W art, do it originally in B&W. Most colour art converted to greyscale looks bad.
Eg: the art in BESM Fantasy Bestiary looks terrible compared to the original colour art on Niko Geyer's website.

Geoff.

I have Cockfighting Seizure Monster (from GoO) and several Jovian Chronicle book (from DP9), and be assured that the illustrations in grayscales look just as good as if they were made in B&W from the beggining (for an idea of how, you can look at the preview, or the demo Heavy Gear RPG on DP9 website).

It's GoO who has an abnormal problem with grayscale (and it kind of worry me for BESM d20 or d20 Mecha).

Our Graphics staff has ten years' experience in treating color images to make them look good in grayscale -- all our books are done that way. So, don't worry about it too much. :D

BTW, the book has started shipping this afternoon. Expect it in stores in about two or three weeks, depending on distribution and shipping times.

Since it's selling so fast, is this a good indication that a limited edition full color version may be in the works?

I don't think we can make the economics of the full color book works, alas (well, we could, but it would mean reducing our profit margin and increasing the printer's).

A full color section, however...

But don't hold your breath. Unless we sell out the entire printrun (a likely thing at this stage, but one never knows), we won't consider it.

Got it!!

My preorder arrived yesterday. I'm very impressed with it. I've got a few ideas for combining several of the mecha settings into one and the great thing is that it can work. Hmmm... Heavy Gears vs. walkers from Gear Krieg. That would be fun to see.:D

and some who had pre-ordered got it in the mail thursday :D

and, it's great!

and I was quite pleased to see that the description of each of the sample setting for the Mecha are detailed enough to play with right away.

edit: nevermind, this book is too great to nitpick on it:p

PS: when are we going to see a d20 vessel compendium with stats for the Ouroboros flag ship and the war Zeplin of Cities & Empire ? Perhaps you could allow a willing publisher or (willing fans ;)) to produce PDF or books for setting that do not exist as game line in your catalog.

My FLGS ordered a few copies of it. By 5 o' clock of the day it arrived in the store, it was sold out. Makes me glad I got the last one. I really like this book. The rules are simple enough to figure out so that you can start using the mecha right away. You don't even need GoO's book to use this one. (Though honestly, Mecha Compendium makes me want to grab d20 Mecha even more.)

I've seen the news of revised books for DP9's games, with the inclusion of dual-statted OGL material. How compatible will this be with d20 Mecha Compendium? Thanks for your time, and keep up the good work!

Glad you think so -- it means we succeeded in what we wanted to do. :)

Actually, the orcish Imperial war zeppelins were supposed to go into the book but got cut. The system does allow to make their stats, though (same for the spaceships).

If we get enough fan interest, we might do additional work on some of these worlds... including, possibly, miniatures.
