Draconomicon or Manual of the Planes???

That's nice to hear. I always liked the planes books because they felt very alien. I thumbed through the new MotP book and was underwhelmed. I never got the sense of the alien-ness of the worlds. It also seemed much shorter than the other editions.

Any comments on that?

If it really is a good read, I guess I will have to get it!

I have it and have read it and felt the same way. Underwhelmed. Didn't feel like a necessity.

Although, in all fairness, Draconomicon was a bit underwhelming to me too, but if I had to choose between the two, I'd go with Draconomicon.

Gotta throw my hat into the Manual of the Planes ring. That book just drips with adventure hooks and inspiration.

I love seeing the new cosmology examined and little things that make you go "WHA?" like how the Raven Queen killed and replaced Nerull.

I loved the explanation for the Blood War (the first time I've been interested in using it in a game), and also the bit about Chernoggar being the old dominion of a fiery war god, the portfolio of whom both Bane and Gruumsh seek to take as their own (hence the ever-present war between them in the dominion).
