In the novel, how old was Van Helsing supposed to be?

I read it years ago, but I don't own a copy and I need to know.

Does anyone know? Is it said?

Salutations,

I don't recall it mentioning how old Helsing was, but I think it is safe to assume late 50's early sixties.

He was a mentor to Seward, and Seward always struck me as being in his late twenties/early thirties- if not older. Seward even calls him old at times (all iirc), but that may just be like an old friend kind of description.

i don't remember because it's been so long since i've read the book...i tryed to do a google search and most of the links were to sites with information on the Hugh Jackman/Kate Beckinsale movie, due out in 2004

I don't think it ever said in the book his age, but I figure 50'ish. He was a doctor, teacher and respected which at time did not happen at a young age.

Now, Adam is Vampilla's love and is younger. :)

:)

Hollywood is making him Hugh Jackmans' age for the monster hunter movie.

I don't think it really says, but the first real description of him I could find (in a quick skim) is in Mina's journal. This is on page 158 of 277, so it's just over halfway into the book, in Chapter XIV.

She describes him fairly well, but does not mention his age. She does mention his reddish hair, implying that Van Helsing is not that old (since he doesn't have white hair, or a mix of white and red hair).
