[Dragon] A few of my thoughts...

Paizo-ans, keep up the good work.

When the page count seemed to thin recently, I was concerned. However, the quality has increased dramatically, IMHO, and the current content balance is outstanding. Each issue contains material that I honestly can see myself using, or at least considering seriously.

Issues 299 to the present each have had material that I have been using, or at the very least makes for interesting reading. Issue 299s Knights article, 300s dragons of the abyss, 301s swashbuckling all are good examples.

Monte's Dungeoncraft articles are excellent, and just what the doctor ordered (only wish I could have had them three years ago, before I learned some of those techniques on my own). The flavor articles are always good, such as Mike Mearls article on keeping magic fresh and mysterious. The article on summoning was good, and the magical armor and other articles simply terrific. The comics are always fun, as well. Most of my players go straight to What's New, Dork Tower or Nodwick when the issue arrives.

The spell templates and dungeon tiles are very useful. We made our own home versions, but yours are generally better, and the addition of what spells are applicable to the tempate actually on the template was pure genius. The custom character sheets aren't as utilitarian, but nice.

I groaned when I saw a NWN article would be inside...until I saw that someone finally got such an article RIGHT. I don't want silly unusable feats that don't make sense in context of either D&D or the subject game (the Asheron's Call article comes to mind, here), but actual usable d20 stats for beasties, and real game mechanics that will actually see play. The older articles always seemed to be 'joke' articles to me. Similarly, the 'ecology' articles suddenly rock, and rock HARD. I've never been a fan of them before...but giving me societal details and creature variants? Keep it coming. In the same vein, the Golem Article in the current issue is outstanding. Uff-da!

In short, I think Dragon is better now than it has been in the last two years, at least. Keep up the good work.

A last question on distribution. I'm a subscriber, in Atlanta, and usually see my magazine about the 23d-25th of the month. Usually the contents of the magazine are up around here on the 12th or so, and most discussion about the current contents (the "I just got #302" comments) begin about the 15th or so (and end by the time I have my copy :( ). Is this because I'm a subscriber, and everyone else gets their copy in stores, or ...?

Don't think that is the explanation, I am a metro-Atlanta subscriber and I usually receive Dragon a few days after the first "I just got #____") appears. For instance, #302 arrived this Wednesday, Nov. 13.

I was going to say the same thing. I'm a subscriber in Southern Illinois, and I got mine 2 days ago...
