[Dragon article] Variant holy avengers?

A train of thought led me to remembering an article I read in Dragon once, about variant "holy avenger" swords.

But for the life of me, I can't find it in my collection. I've even looked for "avenger" and "variant" in the DragonDex (the online master index of Dragon magazine).

Anyone remember this article, and know which edition had it?

Can't help with the Dragon articles, but there are variant holy avenger swords in the 2nd Edition Complete Paladin's Handbook.

Using different search terms, I found: Holy Swords of the (Forgotten) Realms (Dragon 243).

I don't think it's quite what I was remembering, but I'm continuing to search.

I know that I read something... somewhere... about how some Holy Avengers don't always have to be longswords. I think the example they gave was of a Dwarven paladin wielding a Holy Avenger that was a battle axe.

That would have place the article no earlier than 3.0, since that was the first instance where non-humans could be paladins.
