Dragon/Dungeon for November

Almacov

First Post
The November Content Calendar just went up.

Two warlock articles in one month? Delicious. (One introduces the Star Pact for Hexblades, the other... time will tell.)

Also that Cavalier article that was pushed back, Winning Races articles for Wilden and Deva, and a bunch of assumed setting stuff. ("Cultures of Nerath", possibly "Murkroot Trade Moot" [Which I figure is probably another ready-made shopkeep scenario and some more common items, but we shall see!])
A Dark Sun article...

Not much else.

I'm excited for the Warlock and Cavalier business, at least. Fridays...

Is it just me or has the Dungeon content really dried up?

We have:

Adventure Hooks (which just really is a preview of the adventures this month).
Editorial
Eye on the Realms
Chaos Scar adventure
Explore Taer Lian Doresh (location)
Another adventure
Eye on Dark Sun
Save My Game.

I really, really, really wish there would be a 3rd adventure.

I guess Oct's proposed Psion article was officially canceled since it wasn't moved to Nov. How disappointing :erm:

Depending on how cool the Hexblade is, the rest of the month is kinda disappointing.

I would like to see a Psi-crystal article to appear or more psion/ardent articles.

More Essential cleric domains would have also been nice too - just Sun & Storm isn't cutting it

No character build or monster builder update?

Well, that will save me some money. My 3 year(?) subscription ran out last month, and I won't renew 'til essentials has been incorporated into the tools. And if the adventures continue to be this sparse, I won't be opting for another ongoing subscription.

I understand the need for Chaos Scar adventures, and low level adventures in general, especially in light of Essentials and the efforts to draw in new/remiss players, but there must also be a Paragon and Epic offering, and I mean every month. To use the excuse 'well those adventures require more time to develop' is the very purpose and convenience of Dungeon. And even worse the idea that no one is onto Epic. That just irks me more and more as these lackluster Dungeons roll on.

I had so much hope for this month's October issue being something stand out, utilizing Halloween to really turn the magazine into something exciting. I'm coming off a little harsher than I intended, but such a great new standard has been risen for the game (I love Essentials), that to suffer through a declining Dungeon is nearly unbearable.

I feel like there is something owed to DMs and players who have been with this edition since the beginning and are in the market for higher level material.

Is it just me or has the Dungeon content really dried up? (snip)

No, it's not just you: it's an objective fact.

We've gone from three or more adventures, a map of mystery and a few articles in the Paizo print era to two or three delves (without proper maps, just mashed up dungeon tiles) and a few articles.

I do wish Dungeon had an editor-in-chief with enough internal clout so as to be able to return it to the days when it actually had content.

Very disappointing, WotC.

Even I, an eternal optimist, am getting a bit annoyed at the declining content...AND the lack of CB updates (if that turns out to be the case).

Wizards better get their act together.

I actually like the use of dungeon tiles, or if they provided maps not have the location of NPC's and secret doors built into it so I can use them at the table.

Basically, so long as I do not need to do my own shonky drawing for the map I am happy.

The lack of adventures is very disappointing however. Too much Chaos Scar, not enough support for the campaign settings, even if it was just cool tips to make it fit with each of the published settings. Also as mentioned before, nowhere near enough paragon and epic (although I personally do not run or play in epic), the support is pretty poor.

Also Dragon contributed far too much to the bloat of feats we currently are experiencing. The support they are giving to essentials so far seems quite good, but it has gotten far out of hand with core. Especially as you see some races and classes with extreme amounts of bloat and other classes and races with close to nothing.

I am generally pleased with the new Essentials game design so far. But I wish WOTC would reconsider licensing third party adventure publishers or even the whole of Dungeon magazine again to allow folks like Paizo or similar folks to create a greater number and variety of adventures in the market. That would really boost sales of their core products if more people wanted to play because of great adventures.
